Hey There
It may or may not come as a surprise that beeswax candles require a little more TLC than other candles! But don't worry, taking care of them is easy and totally worth it. Let's run through a few basic care instructions, as well as frequently asked questions from candle buyers like you!
-
What makes beeswax candles so special?Beeswax burns clean, kills dust mites, and releases negative ions that attract pollutants in the air, therefore acting as an air-purifying agent! Beeswax is a very dense wax, which means it can last longer than your typical parafin/soy wax candle. However, because of the density and high melting point of beeswax, it can often lead to tunneling. In the case you'd like to avoid tunneling completely, you can request for a beeswax-coconut oil blend at no extra cost.
-
How long do beeswax candles last? The burn time of beeswax candles will depend on the size and quality of the candle however as a general rule beeswax candles burn longer than soy and paraffin candles. On average a 4oz beeswax candle will burn for around 20-25 hours and a 16oz candle will burn for about 80-100 hours.
-
What do I do if there is black smoke coming from the wick?If you notice the smoke burning black, trim the wick down a ¼ inch. Black smoke is a sign that the wick is too long.
-
How do I fix a tunneling candle?Tunneling is a very common feature of pure beeswax candles that can be fix various ways. One way to fix tunneling is by wrapping a piece of aluminum foil around the edges and simply letting it burn. Make sure the foil hangs over the built-up wax areas, but leave an opening in the center so the wick can still burn properly. After a couple of hours, the wax should melt and even out the surface.
-
Care tip # 1Never leave a burning candle unattended! Always burn candles on a protective, heat-resistant surface. Never burn a candle near anything flammable. Keep candles away from kids and animals.
-
Care Tip #2Trim the wick before burning your candle. Trimming the wick is a very important step. This will allow the candle to have a long, clean, even burn and avoid any soot buildup or issues. We recommend you always trim your wick to 1/4" before EACH use. When you trim the wick, turn the solidified candle upside down to prevent the burnt wick from falling into the candle. Trim the wick or remove the “mushroom” left by the previous burn using a wick trimmer
-
Care Tip #3Don’t burn your candle for over 4 hours. If you burn the candle for too long, it can compromise its scent and lead to smoking, which can create marks on the candle’s container.
-
Care Tip #4Burn your candle away from drafts. Keep your candle away from drafts, air currents, or vents. The constant rush of air can cause your candle to burn unevenly and increase the chances of the candle putting off soot.
